King of Cards, first announced in 2017 for a 2018 release, is the fourth and final campaign in the series, a prequel starring King Knight on his quest to become. Numerous expansions followed in the years since, including story campaigns made to extend upon the adventure through the Tower of Fate. The 8-bit-style platformer first launched in June 2014, soon becoming emblematic of the growing retro revival trend. The Shovel Knight journey has been an especially long one.
